As a proud vehicle owner, you are supposed to know how important it is to have a trailer hitch on your vehicle. Does not matter which vehicle model you own, a trailer hitch will always make your towing tasks handy.

However, I noticed on the online forum that a lot of people were asking about the Honda Odyssey hitch installation steps. But, there were not many complete guides that one can follow.

This guide will explain how you can install a trailer hitch on a honda odyssey.

How To Install A Trailer Hitch On A Honda Odyssey

Honda Odyssey Trailer Hitch Installation Steps

Well, there are two versions of the honda odyssey available on the market. The honda odyssey (2011 – 2017) and honda odyssey (2018 – 2022) versions. The hitch installation process of both versions does not vary much. By following my guide, you will be able to install a trailer hitch on both the (2011 2017) and (2018 – 2022) honda odyssey models.

Step 1: Bringing the tools

In the very first step, you have to bring some tools you will need while going through the process. The tools are:

  • Exhaust pliers
  • Safety glass
  • 3/4″ and 1/4″ socket
  • 10mm and 19mm socket
  • Socket wrench
  • Socket bit
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Torque wrench
  • Nut driver
  • 5″ extension

Step 2: Get Your Vehicle Prepared

After gathering all the required tools, now you need to prepare your vehicle. You have to take off the underbody panel of your vehicle (2011-2017). You will find the panel is secured using three fasteners, a bolt and a screw in your vehicle’s wheel. Use your screwdriver and out the fasteners. Also, you have to take off the bolt using your 10mm socket. Lastly, use your socket bit screwdriver for removing the remaining screw.

Again, for the honda odyssey (2018-2022) model, first, you need to remove the panel placed on the driver’s side. Then, you should remove both the exhaust hanger and the mud flap.

Step 3: Place The Hitch In Its Place

At this point, you need to lift your hitch in its position. For this, you can take help from anyone as lifting the hitch by yourself will be a tough task. Before placing the hitch, position all the spacers that come along with your hitch between the hitch bracket and frame rail. Then, install all the bolts and conical-toothed washers first and then attach the hitch to your vehicle’s frame.

Step 4: Provide Required Torque

Now you need to tighten all the bolts. For this, you have to use a torque wrench and socket extension. You should provide the accurate torque amount. To know the exact torque amount, you can check the instruction manual of your hitch. While providing the torque, you will hear a click sound once the required torque is provided.

Step 5: Reinstall Everything

You are done with installing the hitch on your honda odyssey. Now all you need to do is reinstall the parts you removed earlier. This is not a tough task. For reinstalling the parts, just follow the removal process you went through earlier. That’s it.
