Vehicle choice and modifying it with off-roading accessories:
Well, I assumed that you have already a vehicle for your off-roading. However, if you still don’t have any vehicle, then I will recommend having 4X4 along with a chassis frame that builts to withstand the punishment of off-road obstacles.
After selecting the vehicle, you need to prepare it for off-roading with some accessories. These accessories are –
Air compressor – Air compressor is used for inflating or adding air into your tires. It will be helpful to you in tough conditions.
Bumper – Installing a bumper on the front and rear of your vehicle will add extra protection. It will create an obstacle to reach you. You can add an aftermarket bumper, it is stronger than your stock bumper.
Winch – Winch has a good reputation for recovering a vehicle when it gets stuck. Installing a winch on the bumper will help you to recover your vehicle. Check our affordable winch review when you plan to buy one.
Body armor – Adding body armor on your will keep the vehicle safe from scratches. Moreover, it will make your vehicle look better.
Lift kits – Lift kits are used for the ground clearance of your vehicle. It will protect your vehicle’s undercarriage from damage.
Fire extinguisher – You never know what is going to happen with you while off-roading. Isn’t it a better idea to keep a fire extinguisher with you in case any fire produces? That time, the fire extinguisher will help you to stop the fire.
Use the seat belt: Making proper use of a seat belt can save your life if you are in an accident or collision. So, don’t forget to use it.
A loud whistle and laser pointer: Take a loud whistle and laser pointer to your key rings. If you are in danger or get stuck somewhere, using a loud whistle will be much better than using your voice. Moreover, using the laser pointer you will be able to notice anyone’s attraction where your voice may not reach.
Glass breaker and pocket knife: Having a glass breaker and pocket knife is also a good idea. If you get an accident or your vehicle fall in the water, you can cut the seat belt using a pocket knife and break the glass of the window using a glass breaker.
Drive slowly: While off-roading, remember you are not in a race. You should drive slowly or at a limited speed. Excessive speed may cause a serious accident. Don’t start a competition with anyone and be calm while driving.
Stay on the trail: It is important for an off-roader to stay on the trail. Always try to use the trail that you know. Try to avoid the unknown trail. For using an unknown trail, you may have to pay a lot.
Bringing the survival things: Well, bringing survival is one of the most important parts of preparing before off-roading. You need to have all the survival things with you like food or snacks, pure drinking water, a torchlight, First Aid kits, a walkie-talkie, a blanket and so on. This is not the final list, it’s just a part of the survival things. You need to have all the necessary things according to you.
Bring a buddy: Off-roading with a group is always recommended. You don’t know what is waiting for you. You may get stuck or fall in danger. If you are with a group, then you will get help from your group mates. Otherwise, you have to suffer a lot. If traveling with a group is not possible, then at least try to bring an accompanist with you who can drive well. Following this trick, you may get help from him and will be able to relax from long driving.
Mind about extreme temperature: Before going on off-roading, be mindful of extreme temperatures. Extreme weather like too hot or too cold or heavy rainfall may create difficulties to survive. Extreme temperature is good enough to spoil your whole trip.
Let someone know about your trip and route: It is important and highly recommended to let someone know about your trip and route. If they don’t hear any update for a long time, it will be easier for them to find you. Having a GPS with you is also a gd idea. He/She will be able to trace you and can tell the exact location.
