Easy Ways To Tie A Clove Hitch Knot

In total, there are three different methods for tying a clove hitch knot. You can follow anyone that makes you feel better.

How to tie a clove hitch knot

Method 1: Following the quick method over a clip or a loose pole

Step 1:

In the very first step of this method, you need to make two loops in your line. In order to do that, hold the rope and simply twist it for making a simple loop. Repeat this step again to make two loops.

Step 2:

You should find one loop is placed another one and the right loop needs to be placed above. For this, simply slide the right one over the left one. You should not flip the loop.

Step 3:

Insert an object between the two loops. You can use a pole as an object. You are allowed to use other objects though. While inserting the object, if you find the rope is too tight, you can make it loosen using your fingers.

Step 4:

Now, you have to make the knot tight if you are not satisfied. In order to do that, simply pull both ends of your rope. While doing so, make sure it is not making any changes to its position.

Method 2: Making the clove hitch knot over your attached pole

Step 1:

In this method, you need to wrap your rope’s end part halfway around your pole first. Then, move the rope from onwards to the backward and drag it over so that you find the end of your rope hanging off on the other side of your pole.

After that, make a 6-inches long length of your rope on the end part. You need to find it on the opposite side of your pole.

Step 2:

After that, you just need to cross your ropes running end over the front part of it. For this, you have to simply take the running end of the rope below your pole and over the front part of the rope. You should find an “X” format with these two ropes.

Step 3:

Now, you have to wrap your rope end part again over your pole. While doing so, you need to be careful about finding the rope’s end placed like a cross over your first rope. In short, you need to find an “X” as you did in the previous step.

So, go following the upper side of your pole and push your rope midway around it and you will take it to the onward part in a moment.

Step 4:

Then, slip your rope end part below the rope that you have wrapped very recently around your pole. So, take back your rope to the onward part. At this moment, you are supposed to find the actual loop and also the loop you have made now. Now go below the recently made loop and pull it towards the top.

Step 5:

In this last step, you have to make the knot tighten. In order to do that, pull both ends of your knot to make it tight. If you don’t find the rope is flexible, you may require pushing the loop together on your pole.

Method 3: Making a clove hitch knot when climbing

Step 1:

Well, in this method, you need to bring a carabiner clip first. Then place the rope in your clip. Hold the rope that is coming off. Then slip the rope edge into the clip from the right or left side. You should do it with your ease. The long-end part of your rope should come out following the side that is away from you.

Step 2:

Then create a loop in the end part of your rope and reach the opposite side of the clip when the long part of the rope is ending. Now make a loop by twisting the rope. You should find the loop looking like a lowercase cursive.

Step 3:

After that, bring the loop around the clip so that you step your ropes front on the harness. Now you just need to slip the rope into the clip for completing your clove hitch knot.

Step 4:

In this last step, you just need to tighten the knot. For this, simply pull both end parts of your rope. That’s it.
