Here, I have talked about the way to identify the problem of a Mile Marker hydraulic winch.
The Engine is Not Working
You are supposed to know that your winch is operated by the power steering pump of your vehicle. That’s why you need to get the engine running when you use your winch. Even if your engine is not working, you can spool the cable by turning the winch lever to free spool option.
However, if you don’t find any changes there, then follow the below-mentioned procedure:
Step-1: At first, make sure that your vehicle is in the usual operating temperature. Also, give the fluid level of power steering a quick check. If you find any mismatch here, then fill accordingly.
Step-2: Besides, you need to ensure that there is fluid lean on your winch lines or hose connections. If you find any leak, then replace your winch line as soon as possible.
Step-3: You can check-in there are any air bubbles in your reservoir or steering pump. Because these air bubbles will make the efficiency of your winch lower. If so happens, replace your winch faulty parts.
Step-4: You will find a controller plug in your vehicle. Connect the controller of your winch to your vehicle’s controller plug.
Step-5: Now, activate your winch drum free spool option and use your hand to free spool your winch drum.
Step-6: If you are not being able to turn the free spool option, you can try by setting your winch drum to a low lock position.
Step-7: Now, spool the winch cable out using your winch controller. If you face any problem like the cable is not spooling out, then give the connection of your controller plug a quick check. Also, you need to make sure that the plug is secured.
Step-8: After that, test the circuit breaker electrical plugs of your winch. You are supposed to find it near the fluid storage. Without it, you have to ensure that the plug is connected properly.
Step-9: Now, give the electrical plug a quick check within the solenoid coil of your winch.
Step-10: In the final step, try to spool the winch cable out with the help of your winch controller. However, If it is not working still, then you need to have a conversation with customer support.
At this point, you are supposed to find your winch is working fine after going through all the above-mentioned steps. However, if you still find the problem here, then do follow the described steps.
Step-1: At first, test your winch hydraulic line carefully that goes to control valves from your winch. You have to confirm that there is no leak. Also, secure every connection. Without it, if you find air bubbles, then bleed or pack the power steering system.
Step-2: Your winch cable should not be hindered using tie bars onto your winch housing. Besides, in case you find your cable got restricted, just turn the machine off and make adjustments to your tie bars. After that, set the drum to the free spooling position and try manually spooling the cable.
Step-3: It may be the reason behind this problem that the controller isn’t receiving the required power. That’s why it is recommended to check the voltage of your battery. You need to get the voltage present.
Step-4: After that, take off the solenoid coil wire. In case you find the voltage exists in the battery while pressing OUT or IN in your winch controller, then you have to replace the circuit breaker of your winch. Also, you have to attach solenoid coil wire and try to operate your winch.
Step-5: Now give the wire a quick check that is going to your winch solenoid coil for the voltage of your battery while pressing OUT or IN in your winch controller. If there is nothing wrong with the connection, then try to use the winch again.
Step-6: However, if you find the winch is not working, then you need to replace your controller.
Step-7: If you find nothing is happening, then you have to replace your winch solenoid coils.
Step-8: If you find there is any movement on your winch drum that is located on the another side of the pressed button on your controller, then you have to switch the electrical lead to the solenoid coil.
Step-9: If you find the drum is not working with the full capacity, you need to check the position of the restrictors valve. However, if it is not properly placed, your winch will get half power. Again, if there is not any restrictor, the winch will not hold load.
Step-10: If your winch is holding loads but it is slow, then you should check the pressure of hydraulic fluid that is going to your winch. The high pressure is the line attached to one port on your body of the valve.
The pressure of fluid always needs to be higher than 1255-PSI. If you find that the pressure is not meeting the minimal requirement, then you have to understand that the problem with your steering wheel.
Step-11: In the last step, If you find your winch is not spooling even after engaging the free spool option, then it will need an overhaul.
However, if you have gone through all the above-mentioned methods and did not find any solution, then you will have to check if there are any broken parts. For this, you need to follow the following steps:
Step-1: At first, give the gearbox a quick check to find out the broken parts. If you find any broken items, then replace them.
Step-2: If you find everything is fine with the gearbox, then the problem could be with your motor. In this case, take off the motor and try to freely spool without the motor. If you are able to do that, then replace your hydraulic motor.
Step-3: If you, unfortunately, don’t get any solution at this point work, then unfortunately you need to replace your whole drum assembly.
